Girls Soccer Sectional Champs: Bethany defeated Warsaw 1-0 in the championship game of the Bethany sectional and will advance to play Penn in the Goshen regional at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. Bethany scored on its only shot on goal--a Sharisse Yoder corner kick 11 minutes into the game--and held off a persistent Warsaw offense in the second half. Warsaw, which had seven shots on goal, nearly tied the game at the five minute mark with a hard shot from the left side that sailed wide right. Then with 30 seconds remaining in the game, a direct kick just oustide the box was redirected over the goal by keeper Kelly Snyder. The resulting corner kick rattled off of several Warsaw and Bethany players in front of the goal before the ball fittingly ended safely in the hands of Snyder with six seconds remaining. This is the fifth sectional title for Bethany girls soccer since 1997, the last coming in 2005. For more on the game, see Bleeding Bruin Blue.
